Digital Health Doctoral Training Centre

Tech4Health Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) provides multidisciplinary training for the next generation of researchers and innovators in digital healthcare at home, in hospitals, and in the community.

Tech4Health Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) sits at that junction bridging health and digital innovation, helping to realise the region’s ambition for an efficient healthcare service focused on patient care.

A collaborative initiative between UCL (London) and Ulster University, Tech4Health CDT, designed in partnership with hospitals, industry and end-users to develop projects in digital health innovation. Through rigorous PhD-level training, co-supervision across disciplines, and strong industry and clinical engagement, the CDT aims to equip doctoral graduates with the skills to lead, design and implement transformative digital solutions for the UK health and social-care ecosystem.

The programme provides 4-year research study training on industry-led key thematic areas, including:

  • Diagnostic and prognostic indications
  • Treatment and care optimisation
  • Disease tracking, surveillance and modelling
  • Health data security, interoperability and sharing

The core focus of this bespoke digital healthcare technology centre is to create a multi-disciplinary environment to train and develop the next generation of highly skilled digital health researchers, providing technologies that will have a positive impact on patients and society.

Due to the design of the centre, working closely with industry and clinical staff, CDT offers a talent pipeline to nurture home-grown talent, strengthening partnership working across health, technology and academia and is aligned with regional skills development within one of the region’s most important sectors, Life and Health Sciences.
