BT Ireland Innovation Centre

BTIIC drives innovation at the intersection of AI, cybersecurity, IoT, and telecoms through a portfolio of 10 cutting-edge research projects. These projects tackle real-world challenges and deliver transformative solutions across BT’s operations and beyond.

BT Ireland Innovation Centre (BTIIC) was initially a 10-year partnership between BT, Ulster University, and Invest Northern Ireland. BTIIC is driving innovation from the heart of Belfast. Based at BT’s Global Development Centre, it brings together over 30 researchers and 12 PhD students from Ulster University to collaborate with BT’s world-class engineering and research teams.

Our mission is to pioneer cutting-edge advancements in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT)—transforming ideas into impactful technologies for the future.

A key aspect of the research within the centre is the application of these core technologies to develop digital healthcare technologies. These current projects include fall detection / physiotherapy adherence systems and secure zero touch onboarding for med tech IOT devices.
