Community Living Lab

The purpose built CDHT hub will feature a 300m² Community Living Lab. The lab will have a primary care and homebased care focus. Users of the Community Living Lab will be able to collaborate with the CDHT team to develop new digital healthcare products and services utilising the experience and expertise of the living lab approach.

Community Living Lab

The aim of the Community Living Lab is to provide a one stop for innovators and provide help with:

  • Sourcing funding for the project
  • Access to expertise and facilities
  • Help with trial design and ethical approval
  • Access to user groups
  • Accelerated networking and help with finding collaborators

The Community Living Lab offers a dynamic testing trialling space focusing on primary healthcare, offering a smart GP environment. This live environment enables researchers, clinicians, and partners to explore, test, and refine solutions in everyday settings (such as the GP surgery, the Pharmacy, the home, office or transport spaces) bridging the gap between innovation and implementation. It's where healthcare challenges meets agile, human-focussed design.

The testing site in Belfast can benefit from innovations surrounding the regional Encompass initiative implementing electronic health and social care records, offering emerging solutions to be explored around unified patient profiles, supported decision making processes and patient-facing communication platforms.

Based within the CDHT core building, the Community Living Lab will be at the heart of the CDHT ecosystem surrounded by industry, researchers and clinicians. Within digital healthcare the lab is ideally positioned to ideate new solutions and trial home-based monitoring, lifestyle analysis, and monitoring and wearables.
